Next you have 4 separate rooms, one used to have a sling in it but for some reason it is no longer there. Then there’s some more gloryholes where the idea is to have one side on a raised platform but about as much thought went into these as the maze room. Once upstairs the is a pathetic attempt at a maze gloryhole room with a few bits of cardboard erected which no one ever uses and some bits of the cardboard have holes drilled in but again imagine whoever designed this room let off a massive brain fart as the did it. They also creak loudly, and are poorly lit. If however you want to take a shower then you can detowel in direct view of the zombietwink staff and push a button which prompts a trickle of tepid water to trickle down onto you, but you have to press the button again every 3 seconds as this is perfect if you are trying to create your own version of Chinese Water Torture. The jacuzzi around the corner is generally fine and the smoking area also is perfectly adequate. Then you walk through into the changing rooms which are cold, slippery and unpleasant to get changed in. I’m not some queen who loves to leave a bitchy review because nobody went near my battered old hole last time I was there, it’s basically like if you were to order a sauna experience from Brainfarts’R’Us.com - this is wheat you would get, on entry you are “welcomed” by generally an apparently lobotomised extra from the Walking Dead. I go about twice a year, normally on a Saturday night as it’s the busiest time and I’m generally intoxicated - which dulls the impact of how skanky this place is. The worst sauna I have ever been to - unfortunately the only option we have here in Bristol without leaving the city.

How come bristol doesn’t have at least one decent Sauna? It’s a big city! Perlease! As far as I am aware, it is still owned by the same arrogant monster and run by an ever changing stream of ambitious yet ultimately disillusioned or otherwise replaceable youngsters, or on this occasion by a lazy incompetent fukwit. This level of negligence may be acceptable to the late night pissed up crowd of 18 year old drinkers who must be the only sauce of profit here. This is the worst sauna I have ever ever visited. I have been to many many gay saunas, but never a single other one where the facilities were not on all the time, because the management realise that this is precisely what their fucking customers are paying for. 30 minutes later there was not a trace of steam. Previous managers have told me this is an economy measure, and it will only work when the wall switch is operated. The next time I saw it, the cover was off, the water was cold, and the jet switch was broken. I interrupted the manager in mid gossip with his mate to ask when it might be full. Surprise! The showers were an icy dribble because the jacuzzi was being filled the cover was still on. However, from previous experience I arrived with my expectations in my boots. Plenty of time to set up, I thought - heat up the jacuzzi and the steam room. The Glen Hotel is located on Sea Point close to Cape Towns hottest beaches and trendy restaurants and bars. With the excellent Newport Sauna still probably closed for another week, I thought I would try the nearby, but god awful Lads Locker Room in the hope that during its 16 months or so of closure, the owner might have put the tiniest bit of effort into fixing the steam room and the jacuzzi water jet switch, and maybe tidied the place up a bit. The Glen can also arrange in-room massages including deep tissue, Thai and therapeutic from one of their male masseuses. The facilities include a spacious Moroccan style steam room, traditional Swedish sauna, jacuzzi and relaxation area, outdoor swimming pool. The Glen Hotel also offers a stunning Sauna for Guests of the hotel and their friends. Of particular note is a sundeck affording superb views of the city. The entry charge changes on some days with special rates so have a look at the website for prices when you want to go. The venue features 2 Jacuzzis, steam room, two video lounges, a sauna, a maze, an upmarket bar and dining facility and spotless private cabins. The Hothouse just around the corner from all the gay clubs, is a glamorous steam venue for the younger, upmarket crowd. Unlike other Gay Destinations, there aren’t many Gay Saunas in Cape Town. Hot House Sauna is the place to hook up in Cape Town.
